That Was Fast...

It seems that the DVD release of Cloverfield is slated to hit stores near the end of April; a scant four months after its theatrical debut. Is it just me, or is that an exceptionally quick transition to home release? The official movie/DVD site has listed the features which will appear on the disc:

I figure that the “I Saw It! It’s Alive! It’s Huge!” and the “Clover Fun” featurettes are going to amount to mostly fluff, although the “Cloverfield Visual Effects” might be an interesting watch. I can’t imagine what the alternate endings would entail, but I came up with a few:

- The creature becomes friendly and complacent after the lead characters discover a thorn stuck in its foot and pull it out.

- Godzilla comes ashore and blows the Cloverfield monster’s head off.

- Same deal as above, but with Gamera.

- Four teenagers and their talking dog discover that the monster is nothing more than elaborate hoax designed to scare New Yorkers away so as to perpetrate a real estate scam.

I still think the movie sucked, but that picture is really awesome.

I loved Cloverfield, personally. I thought it was everything the 1998 American Godzilla movie should have been.

And movies in general are going to start appearing on DVD very shortly after the theatrical release. Many are proposing that they should be released simultaneously.
